Ruby 1 carat: valuable gemstones in deep red

The most important characteristic of the ruby is its color. The ruby is a corundum, just like that sapphire . The ruby differs from this only in its color. Pink sapphire or red ruby?

Rubies come in different shades of red: They are light to dark red. Some are pink or orange, others are brownish. However, the best color is a deep, lively shade of red. This color is also known as “pigeon blood red”. If rubies of 1 carat have this color, they can achieve high prices despite their comparatively small size

Ruby – the most valuable among the corundums

Rubies come into their own on a wide variety of pieces of jewelry. If you buy a one-carat ruby, you can have it turned into a beautiful ring, bracelet or necklace by a goldsmith. Earrings with rubies also attract attention. Thanks to their hardness (9 on the Mohs scale) they do not have to fear any scratches on rings.

The red stones go particularly well with yellow gold, but their noble color is also emphasized with white gold or framed by small, sparkling diamonds.

Origin & mining sites

Most common cuts

As with larger stones, the cut of one-carat rubies depends on the shape and size of the rough stone. Oval cuts are the most common, but round brilliant cuts are also used. Rubies under 1.5 carats are also available with an emerald cut.
